Fix Bad Credit

It is very difficult to go through life today with bad credit. It is not a luxury, but a necessity if you want to purchase a car or home or even those expensive major appliances needed everyday. It will take considerable effort and dedication on your part but you can fix bad credit.

The first thing you should always do is get a free copy of your credit report. Check it over for errors. Remember the information entered on this report is entered by humans and we all make mistakes. Perhaps there is a report of an unpaid bill which you know was paid off. Or maybe a late payment was recorded that was in fact paid on time. It is even possible that the damaging credit information of someone with a name similar or the same as yours was posted on your credit report by mistake.(Hint: you want to get that fixed.)

If you discover an error be sure to submit a credit report dispute and have this damaging information removed from your report and have your credit score increased accordingly.

Try to negotiate with your creditors or debt collectors. Many of them are willing to remove their damaging credit report on you if you agree to make substantial payments and bring your payments up to date. If they agree to these terms, be sure to uphold your side of the bargain and meet the payment schedule you have agreed to. You will not get a second chance if you default the second time.

If you have unpaid judgements against you then do whatever is necessary to pay off these judgements. They will do more than anything else in ruining your credit score.

Gas cards and department store credit cards are much easier to get than regular credit cards or bank loans. Get a couple of these and make some small purchases. Pay them off at the end of every month to show your responsibility in paying your debts. Don't however use these cards to purchase items you don't really need. You will just dig yourself further into the hole of poor credit if you can't pay off these bills.

Don't apply for a lot of these gas and department store cards as your credit score will drop with every application you make and are turned down.

It will take a lot of dedication on your part but it is easy to fix bad credit if you just apply yourself to the task.
